The Barbican to host major exhibition
dedicated to Jean Paul Gaultier

The Barbican has announced its new programme of arts and learning for 2013/14 which will include Pop Art Design, an exhibition recognising the role of design in the Pop Art movement, as well as the first major exhibition dedicated to French designer Jean-Paul Gaultier, entitled 'The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk'. Opening at the Barbican in April 2014, this installation of more than 140 couture and ready-to-wear garments will explore Gaultier's fashion world, from his designs to his interest in society and identity. The exhibition includes costumes for film and performance including iconic pieces such as the conical bra and corsets Madonna wore during her 1990 Blonde Ambition World Tour, stage costumes designed for Kylie Minogue as well as pieces created for the films of Pedro Almodóvar and Luc Besson's The Fifth Element.
