scheme following funding

British knitwear brand John Smedley has established an apprenticeship scheme following £500,000 in funding from Santander Corporate & Commercial, ensuring the necessary skills remain available within its workforce. Established in 1784, John Smedley was founded at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution and today operates one of the oldest manufacturing factories in the world. Both the current Managing Director and Chairman are descendants from founder, John Smedley. Today, 230 years after its foundation, the firm’s products are distributed in over 40 countries worldwide with a strong market presence in Japan, Europe and the USA. The company holds a Royal Warrant and in November 2013 was awarded Premium Brand of the Year by Drapers.
